Some concerned contractors handling Federal Government projects across the country have called on the Presidency to urgently clarify the roles within the Federal Ministry of Finance, amid lingering uncertainty over the mandate of the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele.
Some of the contractors who spoke to this platform noted that the lack of a clear operational framework is creating confusion, particularly in areas relating to funding, cash management, and project execution.
A presidency memo, reportedly issued on December 4, 2025, had assigned a wide range of responsibilities to the office of the Minister of State for Finance, including oversight of home finance, cash management, the Nigeria Customs Service, domestic debt management, technical services, revenue generation, and finance development.
However, the subsequent appointment of Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State has raised questions over whether the earlier directive is still in effect or has been modified.
A source within the ministry said no formal communication has been circulated to clarify the current structure, leaving stakeholders uncertain about the chain of command and decision-making process.
Although the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, is said to maintain a cordial working relationship with Mr. Oyedele, ambiguity persists regarding the exact scope of duties assigned to the Minister of State.
Adding to the confusion are indications that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation may have issued an internal directive limiting the Minister of State’s role to revenue generation and insurance matters, though no official memo has been made public.
One of the contractors, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the uncertainty is already affecting confidence among stakeholders.
“We deal directly with the ministry on funding approvals and disbursements, and this lack of clarity is not helpful. We need to know who is responsible for what,” he said.
Another contractor who also did not want his name mentioned warned that the situation could disrupt project financing and execution if not urgently addressed, urging the Presidency to provide a definitive statement to ensure transparency, coordination, and stability in the management of public finances.
