Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly killed an army Colonel, I.A. Mohammed, along with several soldiers, following an overnight assault on a military base in Monguno, Borno State.
According to reports, the insurgents attacked a military outpost in the town, leaving at least 22 soldiers dead.
The slain officer, Colonel I.A. Mohammed, was said to be attached to the 242 Battalion, one of the units operating in the insurgency-ravaged region.
Sources familiar with the incident said the attack occurred as the military was preparing to launch a renewed offensive against the terrorists, who have recently intensified assaults and inflicted significant casualties on government forces.
A video allegedly showing the aftermath of the attack surfaced on social media shortly after the incident, though official confirmation remains limited.
