A serious accident happened this Saturday afternoon on Molete Road in Ibadan, Oyo State. A container-laden truck suffered brake failure at the Molete Underbridge area and the heavy container fell off, crushing several motorcycles (okada) and at least one tricycle, known locally as keke.….......
Eyewitnesses said the crash caused immediate panic in the busy area. People ran to help as some riders and passengers remained trapped under the fallen container.
Residents and passersby quickly gathered to lift the heavy load and rescue those stuck, even before emergency teams arrived. Videos shared on social media showed chaos, with traffic completely blocked and many vehicles stranded.
Reports from local sources, including Punch Newspapers, said at least three people were injured. A tricycle and more than ten motorcycles were badly damaged or destroyed. Some early posts on X (formerly Twitter) feared more casualties, but confirmed details pointed to injuries rather than many deaths at the time of the incident.
The accident disrupted movement around Molete, a popular and crowded part of Ibadan. Commuters expressed worry and called for faster help from road safety agencies and emergency services. Many blamed poor maintenance of heavy trucks that carry containers on city roads.
This is the latest in a series of trailer-related crashes in Ibadan. People have urged the government to check trucks better and improve road safety to avoid such painful incidents.
Local leaders, including some political aspirants, have sent messages of sympathy to the victims and their families. Rescue operations continued as this report was filed, with prayers for those hurt.
