Tensions are mounting within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Daura, Katsina State, as party stakeholders push back against what they describe as attempts to impose candidates ahead of forthcoming elections.
Reports indicate that influential figures within the party, including Barrister Ahmad El-Marzuq, have openly opposed any move to sideline internal consultation.
In a video circulating on social media, Barrister El-Marzuq was seen cautioning party leaders against allowing themselves to be used to impose candidates, regardless of status or privilege. He, however, noted that stakeholders may consider supporting aspirants if proper consultations and mutual understanding are established.
“They should not allow themselves to be manipulated into forcing any candidate on the people,” he said in the clip. “But if there is dialogue and respect, concessions can be made.”
“We will not accept imposed candidates,” El-Marzuq was quoted as saying, reflecting a growing sentiment among party members who are insisting on due process and consensus-building.
The development is being linked by some observers to the reported legislative ambition of Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Yusuf Buhari is said to be interested in contesting for the House of Representatives seat representing Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.
Political analysts say the unfolding situation signals a potentially contentious path towards candidate selection within the APC in the constituency, with strong indications that internal disagreements may intensify before a final decision is reached.
