Alleged assault: Wade into crisis rocking APC in Lagelu – Party chieftains appeal to Tinubu, Yilwatda

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other party leaders to wade into the crisis rocking the party in the area.

The APC chieftains made this declaration while addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Ibadan.

DAILY POST reports that leaders of the party have been at loggerheads over the control of the party structure.

It was learnt that a chieftain of the party, Mr Gafar Oyebade, was allegedly harassed and injured by a member of the House of Representatives representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede, at the APC State Secretariat on Monday.

Oyebade, while addressing journalists, called on Tinubu, Yilwatda, and other party leaders to intervene.

The APC chieftain, while speaking further, maintained that the party had allegedly been hijacked.

He called on the leadership of the party to address imbalances in all the affected local government areas in the state.

He said, “I am calling on the apex decision-making body of our party. I am calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman, the Inspector-General of Police, Zone 11 of the Nigeria Police Force, and all other leaders of the party to wade in.

“As it is, hoodlums have hijacked the APC structure. This is not peculiar to Lagelu Local Government Area. There are crises in Atisbo, Afijio, Egbeda, and Ibadan North-West too. I am calling on all Nigerians to save me. What I want is justice.

“He should be brought to book. He should be prosecuted. If he continues, it will affect many people. He should be prosecuted and brought to book so that it will serve as a deterrent to others.”

An APC leader and former Chairman of the Local Government Area, Chief Timothy Sanda, while speaking, described the attack on the APC chieftain as unfortunate.

Sanda called on Tinubu and other party leaders to wade into the crisis rocking the party in the local government area.

“You journalists are the ones who can get it to the ears of our leaders. They should come to our aid and wade in. I don’t think it is proper for any member of the House of Representatives to beat someone in public, and this was done at the APC State Secretariat. It is not allowed in our party. APC is not a party of thugs or miscreants.”
