Akwa Ibom State Police command says its operatives have busted a criminal hideout in Ibesikpo Asutan local government of the state where illicit drugs are being transacted and other unlawful activities take place.
It added that it arrested another suspect alleged to be terrorizing Michael Abraham Street by Nkemba in Uyo.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Monday, said operatives swung into action following credible intelligence.
John listed the names of suspects arrested to include: Ofonime Tom (M), a suspected member of a notorious gang terrorizing residents of Michael Abraham Street, Nkemba Street, Ikot Ebido Oku, and surrounding area.
Others include: Sunday Benedict Asuquo, Abdulkarim Umaru, Yahaya Muhammad, Sherif Baworo arrested in Ibesikpo Asutan.
She said a thorough search conducted at the location resulted in the recovery of the following exhibits: Quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Cash sum of Twenty-Eight Thousand Naira (₦28,000), Multiple mobile phones, One lighter, Two kitchen knives, Two pairs of scissors, One black bag.
She said preliminary investigations showed that the premises serve as a hub for illicit drug distribution and other criminal activities within the area, adding that all suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation, while discreet investigations have commenced to apprehend other fleeing members of the criminal networks and recover additional weapons and exhibits linked to their operations.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for criminality, emphasizing that the ongoing operations are part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal syndicates and restore public confidence.
