Adamimogo FC on Thursday ended Sunshine Stars FC’s 31-year participation in the Federation Cup following a semi-final victory at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sunshine Stars, founded in 1995, had consistently represented the state in the competition since inception.
The first half of the closely contested encounter ended goalless.
However, Adamimogo FC took the lead shortly after the restart, showing greater determination in the second half.
All efforts by Sunshine Stars to equalise were thwarted by the resolute defence of the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) side.
NAN reports that Adamimogo qualified for the semi-finals through the best loser slot after losing 2-1 to Sunshine Stars’ U-19 team.
Speaking after the match, Adamimogo FC Head Coach, Hassan Dosso, said there was little difference between his NLO side and Sunshine Stars, who play in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
Dosso said he remained confident of victory in spite of his team’s earlier loss to the club’s U-19 side.
He said: “We first played their U-19 team and lost, but I was confident we would bounce back.
“There is no big difference between the teams.
“It is about the mindset of the players, and my boys showed the right attitude.”
Dosso added that his team was ready to represent the state well in the competition proper, regardless of the outcome of the final.
