The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through its Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), has rejected a ₦100 million bribe from a syndicate of vandals and recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects linked to the large-scale vandalisation of critical national infrastructure.

The suspects, identified as Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22, were arrested on April 9, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, who said the operation led to the interception of a trailer truck conveying approximately 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers valued at over ₦400 million.

According to him, the items were concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in a deliberate attempt to evade detection while being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the truck was contracted for the sum of ₦2.5 million to transport the vandalised materials. Further findings indicate an organised supply chain linked to receivers of such stolen infrastructure,” the statement read.

Placid added that during the investigation, operatives rejected a ₦100 million bribe allegedly offered to compromise the process and secure the release of the suspects and recovered exhibits.

He noted that the trailer used in transporting the materials has been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, including intended receivers, and to recover additional exhibits.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and integrity, describing their actions as a reflection of the core values of the Force.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting national assets and combating vandalism across the country.
