There was fear, tears, and then sudden relief in Kaduna State after a terrifying Easter attack on a church.
Gunmen invaded a worship service in Ariko village, Kachia, and abducted dozens of innocent Christians mid-prayer.
But help came fast.
Troops of the Nigerian Army moved quickly after a distress call and chased the attackers deep into the bush.
In a fierce gun battle, the soldiers overpowered the terrorists and forced them to abandon 31 kidnapped worshippers.
One victim is currently receiving treatment, while many others are still in shock.
Sadly, five people were not so lucky.
Their lifeless bodies were found at the scene, leaving families in deep pain.
The army says more troops have been deployed, and the hunt for the fleeing attackers is ongoing.
For many Nigerians, this rescue brings hope—but also a painful reminder of the country’s growing insecurity.
