From Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto
Sokoto Professionals Network (SPN) on Saturday in Sokoto unveiled a Media Gallery in memory of a late member of staff of the Sokoto State Television, Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa.
Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa died on 13th January, 2026, after a brief illness.
The unveiling of the memorial was witnessed by colleagues, relatives, family members and associates, including the representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
Until his death, the deceased was the Director, Media and Pubic Relations of the Network and a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
Speaking at the event, the Sultan of Sokoto, represented by Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, Sarkin Yakin Gagi and District Head of Gagi, extolled the sterling contributions of the deceased.
The Sultan described him as a consummate and prolific journalist whose positive impact on journalism could not be easily forgotten.
Also speaking, Dr Nurudeen Abubakar Muhammad, Executive Vice Chairman of the SPN and Coordinator of the Memorial Committee, described the deceased as a quintessential journalist and core professional.
In his contribution, Engr. Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, Chairman, Incorporated Trusses, SPN, said that the deceased unparalleled dedication and commitment are worthy of emulation by all working journalists in the nation.
The Managing Director, Sokoto State Media Corporation, Labaran Lumo Dundaye, represented by Shehu Garba, Manager News, RTV, said that Sifawa’s death had created a wide vacuum that would be too difficult to fill.
The Chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Usman Mohammed Binji, commended SPN for organising the event, saying, ” we will forever remain eternally grateful to the deceased.
“His remarkable legacies will also remain evergreen in our minds.”
Other speakers at the event also extolled the contributions of late Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa to journalism practice in the state and the country in general.
Among them were Kabiru Assada and Yusuf Dingyadi, Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof.
Nentawe Yilwatda.
Also speaking, Amb. Faruk Malami Yabo, former Nigeria’ s Ambassador to Jordan, represented by Bello Garkuwan Yabo said, “we lost a friend and brother.”
The daughter of the deceased, Hafsat Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa, commended the network for organising the event, saying, “we will continue to cherish this invaluable gesture.
” Our late father was a very pious, humble and dedicated journalist and kind bread winner.”
