Halima Mohamed emotionally recounted how her 16-year-old daughter left their home in the Arusha region of Tanzania, leaving her devastated.

“I left on Saturday morning, March 28, to run errands. I left them sleeping. They later woke up and did some house chores. Her friends, whom she studies with, visited her in the evening around 4pm. When they left, she went with them as though she was escorting them. She never returned.

When I got home, I asked my children where Sharon was, and they told me she had left with Mariam and had not come back. I found a letter she had left behind saying we should not look for her because she was in a safe place,” Halima said.
Halima contacts Miriam’s mum
Halima reported the matter to the police as the family began searching for the student from Arusha Sekei Secondary School.
They also made efforts to find Mariam in hopes of getting more information about Sharon’s whereabouts and possible leads.
“We contacted Mariam’s mother, who said she was shocked to receive a message from her daughter stating that Sharon had left school for a job in Dar es Salaam. She said Sharon was going to work for a woman who has triplets, but we have not been able to establish contact with that family. Sharon also told her friend she did not want to return to school. Until now, we are still looking for her,” Halima said.
Did Sharon want to quit school?
Halima noted that at no point had her daughter expressed a desire to quit school, adding that Sharon had always shown a willingness to continue with her education.

The mother had even bought a metallic trunk and other school items in preparation for Sharon to join a boarding school, explaining that she was not comfortable with her daughter’s environment in day school and had faced other challenges.
“We never forced her to choose the school or go to boarding. I discussed it with her, and even when she was filling out the forms, she seemed satisfied. She said she was ready and willing to join the boarding school,” she added.
Halima further revealed that her daughter had burned her photos, possibly to prevent the family from using them in the search. However, they managed to retrieve some images from a phone, which they are now using to help trace her.

Nyeri PP1 pupil goes missing
In another story, a family in Nyeri searched for their missing son, Travis Wanjohi, who was outside their home at the Veterinary Staff Residential Quarters near Karatina Hospital.
Travis’s father expressed devastation, saying he could not eat or sleep while his son remained missing and vulnerable.
Community members and police launched a search, but there has been no trace of the boy.
