A fresh revelation from a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party has stirred reactions across Nigeria, as he shares a personal experience that left him angry and disappointed.
Segun Sowunmi, a senior figure in the PDP, has opened up about an incident involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after he assumed office.
Speaking during an interview on MIC ON PODCAST, Sowunmi made it clear that he does not allow ethnicity to control his political decisions. However, he went on to narrate an experience that tested his patience.
According to him, he visited Tinubu’s residence soon after his swearing-in, hoping to see the new president. But on getting there, he met a closed door and had to wait outside, unaware that Tinubu was busy at the time.
While he was still waiting, something happened that changed his mood completely.
Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, arrived and walked straight in without delay.
That moment, Sowunmi said, made him very upset.
He questioned why someone like him, who believed he had made contributions politically, would be left outside while another person gained quick access.
The incident, according to him, stayed in his mind for a long time.
In fact, he revealed that he did not visit Tinubu again until 2022 because of how he felt that day.
Despite the experience, Sowunmi stressed that he is not someone who promotes extreme ethnic politics. He maintained that his approach to politics goes beyond tribal lines.
His statement has now sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians reacting to issues of access, respect, and political recognition among leaders.
Some are asking if such experiences are common in Nigerian politics, while others are debating whether his reaction was justified.
