Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and position the state as a health tourism hub.
Governor Fubara made the remark on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, in a goodwill message to mark World Health Day.
He pledged sustained prioritisation of accessible and quality healthcare for residents.
He urged residents to adopt healthy lifestyles, maintain proper hygiene, and protect themselves against preventable diseases through proactive health measures.
“Our communities need to participate in health promotion as collective efforts are essential to strengthening awareness and supporting local health initiatives,” he said.
Fubara highlighted the achievements of his administration, including recruitment of over 2,000 health workers to boost manpower and improve efficiency in healthcare facilities.
He added: “Since taking office, we have made significant progress, revamped facilities and established a health insurance scheme to enhance access and affordability.
“Our aim is to position Rivers as a health tourism hub by providing affordable, efficient, and accessible healthcare services.”
The governor said that previously abandoned zonal hospitals in Bori, Omoku, Ahoada, and Degema had been revived and expanded under his administration.
He also disclosed that 153 Primary Healthcare Centres had been remodelled across the state to improve functionality and service delivery.
Fubara further said over 400 staff of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital had been promoted, alongside recruitment of an additional 500 personnel.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Health Day is observed on April 7 to raise awareness on global health issues and mobilise action.
The theme for 2026: “Together for Health: Stand with Science,” emphasises collaboration, research, and evidence-based solutions to improve global health outcomes.
