Many questioned whether young men had stopped attending social events or spending money, while others suggested they had simply decided to stop trying to please women.

Social media users react to Mataha experience

While some argued men were busy with work, family, and self-development, others noted it was harmless fun, benefiting organisers and service providers.

Kimendero Wajosto:

“Is Mataha meant for men? I think it’s a women’s event, just like Ngemi. We are busy with work, family, and prayers. Events like this are just entertainment; we want to go to Heaven when the time comes.”

Faizol Qui:

“Women are finally free from the belief that only men can offer them happiness or completeness. This shows we don’t need men to have fun, we can enjoy ourselves.”

“Their wives probably won’t let them go out late, especially in this rainy season. A good example of ‘what a man can do, a woman can do better.’”

Samwel Kimaru Gaita:

“Many men have adopted the strategy of self-improvement: eating healthy, reading more, investing, living within their means, sleeping six hours minimum. They simply have no time for this.”

John Kedi:

“What’s the big deal with women having fun? It’s good business for the organisers and service providers. Everyone should do what makes them happy; it doesn’t have to be about men or women.”
