Two children have drowned in a muddy floodwater collection site at Erediauwa Street, off Sapele Road, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

A witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told NGGOSSIPS Online that four children were playing around the area designated by the Edo State Government for floodwater collection when they slipped into the muddy site on Sunday.

According to the source, two of the children were already dead before help arrived, while the other two were rescued and later resuscitated at a nearby hospital.

“That area where the four kids slipped into is used to collect flood water, and no one would have thought the children would go there because it’s muddy.

“The two children were fished out dead, while two others were resuscitated at a nearby hospital where they were rushed to.

“The four children had gone to play in the area designated by the state government to collect flood water,” the witness said.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, stating that a rescue team was immediately dispatched upon receiving information.

She said two of the children died at the scene, while the other two were taken to hospital for treatment.

“The children actually died in the mud before rescue got to them, while two were rescued,” she added.
