The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, arresting 34 suspected internet fraudsters and apprehending two suspected armed robbers in separate operations across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Asaba, detailing the command’s recent successes in combating cybercrime and violent offences.
According to the statement, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, led by SP Collins Arrey, on March 28, 2026, raided a suspected cybercrime hideout in Opete, following a distress call from a woman who reported that her younger brother had been held hostage and forced into internet fraud.
“The operation exposed an organised network of young suspects operating from a residential apartment converted into a cybercrime base,” the statement said.
A total of 34 suspects were arrested at the scene, while items recovered included 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms.
The police said the recoveries point to the scale and coordinated nature of the illicit operation, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities.

In a separate operation on March 29, operatives of the Department of Operations intercepted a tricycle along the Ogbolu/Illah Road during routine patrol.
The police said one of the occupants attempted to flee upon sighting operatives but was pursued and arrested after reportedly resisting arrest.
A search conducted on the tricycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges.
The suspect was identified as Mustapha Musa, 32, from Kogi State, while the tricycle rider, Iyanosor Ogbizi, 34, was also taken into custody.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while the recovered exhibits have been transferred for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements through intelligence-driven policing.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible information to enhance public safety.
