The youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Oyejide Sunkanmi, has resigned his membership of the party.
Sunkanmi, who served as the PDP Youth Leader in the state, hails from Ibara/Onisasa Ward 16 in Abeokuta North, announced his resignation on Monday through a formal letter addressed to the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella.
In the letter, the former youth leader described his exit as the end of a significant political journey spanning over a decade.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party. It has been a remarkable and fulfilling 12-year journey,” he stated.
He noted that his years in the PDP provided him with political exposure and personal growth, expressing gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunities accorded to him.
“I am sincerely grateful to the leadership of the party for the opportunity to serve in various capacities. The experience has shaped me politically and personally, and for that, I remain thankful,” Sunkanmi said.
In the letter, Sunkanmi acknowledged several party stakeholders whom he credited for supporting his political career, including PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu; state chairman, Abayomi Tella; Olumide Aderinokun; Prince Lekan Tejuosho; Olabosipo Ogunsan; Folake Marcus Bello; Abiodun Ogunremi; Sunday Sholarin; and Yussuf Oshunrinde.
“I wish to express my profound appreciation to all leaders and stakeholders who stood by me throughout my stay in the party. Their encouragement and support remain invaluable,” he added.
The youth politician admitted that his decision might generate mixed reactions within party ranks but appealed for understanding.
“I understand that this decision may not sit well with everyone. To those who may feel disappointed, I humbly ask for your understanding. Decisions such as this are never taken lightly,” he said.
Sunkanmi explained that his resignation was driven by what he described as the need to embrace a new political direction.
“At this point, I believe it is time for me to move on to the next phase of my journey,” he wrote, expressing optimism about the future.
Though he did not explicitly state his new political platform in the resignation letter, party sources confirmed to The NGGOSSIPS that the youth leader has aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ogun State.
As of press time, officials of the Ogun State PDP had yet to issue an official reaction to Sunkanmi’s resignation.
However, insiders described the development as another test of party cohesion within local structures.
