Newcastle United has ruled out a managerial change, confirming that Eddie Howe will remain in charge for the rest of the season despite a difficult run of results.
According to BBC Sport, Newcastle Chief executive David Hopkinson said the club is not considering a change and remains focused on finishing the campaign strongly.
He said: “I don’t have a stance on his future.
“What I can tell you is that the derby loss hurt. We take it seriously.
“There’s nothing within us that thinks, ‘Well, it’s just three points and on we go’. It has resonated.”
Newcastle’s struggles have included a 7-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League and a 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, leaving the club 12th in the Premier League.
Supporters voiced their frustration after the derby defeat, booing Howe and his players at St James’ Park.
Despite the pressure, Hopkinson said the club remains aligned with the manager after recent internal discussions.
He said: “I spent a couple of hours in a one-on-one lunch recently with Eddie, and we talked through a multitude of things, including that.
“Eddie is our manager. I expect to have a great run to the end of the season here, and we will talk about the future when it’s time.
“Right now, we’re focused on this season’s competition.”
The club is also planning ahead for the summer transfer window, preparing for different scenarios depending on European qualification.
Hopkinson added that any outgoing transfers will be on Newcastle’s terms, referencing last year’s high-profile sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool.
Despite recent setbacks, Newcastle continues to back Howe, who led the club to Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025 and delivered the EFL Cup last season.
