The All Progressives Congress in Jigawa State has elected a new set of executives, with Ahmad Garba emerging as state chairman in a consensus-driven congress held on Tuesday.

The state congress took place at Dutse Stadium in the state capital, barely two weeks after the ward and local government congresses, in line with the timetable issued by the party’s national headquarters.

Announcing the outcome shortly after the exercise, Chairman of the APC State Congress Committee, Shehu Ma’azu, said the election was conducted through consensus, with single candidates contesting the available positions.

“The exercise was consensus-driven, with single candidates contesting the elective positions. We are pleased to announce that the congress was conducted in a peaceful and consensus manner,” he stated.

Ma’azu declared Garba state chairman alongside 35 other executives, including Nasiru Jahun as Deputy Chairman and Uzairu Maigatari as State Secretary.

Speaking at the event, Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, commended party members for what he described as their maturity and commitment to the party’s growth.

“I have no doubt that the new executives will serve the party with dedication and commitment. I urge you to work tirelessly for the party’s success,” the governor said.

He attributed the peaceful conduct of the congress to the unity and discipline of party members, noting that there were no reports of violence throughout the exercise.

“The peaceful conduct of the congress is a reflection of the party’s strength and unity. Now, the party is intact, and members are hopeful for a successful future,” Namadi added.

The governor urged the new leadership to prioritise inclusiveness, grassroots mobilisation and stakeholder engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The new leadership should ensure that all stakeholders are carried along and that no one is left behind. We must work together to ensure the party’s victory in 2027,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Garba pledged to foster unity within the party and work collaboratively with stakeholders to strengthen its structures across the state.

“We will ensure inclusiveness and unity within the party,” he said, expressing optimism about the APC’s prospects in Jigawa.

The congress was witnessed by officials from the party’s national headquarters, representatives of INEC, security agencies and members of the media.
