Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has applauded the peaceful and rancour-free conduct of the All Progressives Congress state congress, describing it as a historic milestone that reaffirmed unity and internal cohesion within the party.

The congress, held on Tuesday at the FIFA Stadium, Goru, near Birnin Kebbi, drew hundreds of delegates and party faithful from the 21 local government areas of the state.

Addressing the gathering, Idris said the seamless transition from ward to local government and now to the state congress reflected discipline, maturity and a shared commitment to progress among party members.

“Despite the Ramadan fast and the scorching heat, our members demonstrated unity and decorum.

“This is a true reflection of our party’s symbol — the broom — which signifies strength in togetherness”, he said.

The governor thanked party elders and stakeholders for sustaining harmony within the APC and pledged to consolidate on the foundation laid by past leaders to ensure enduring stability.

He congratulated the newly elected state executives, expressing confidence in their experience and capacity to steer the party forward.

Idris also commended the national and local congress committees for ensuring a transparent and hitch-free process, insisting that Kebbi remains one of the most peaceful states in the country.

Former Kebbi State Governor and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, described the congress as a testament to Idris’ inclusive leadership style.

He said the orderly conduct of the exercise underscored effective consultation and consensus-building within the party.

Bagudu further credited the governor with mobilising northern stakeholders in support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his leadership has earned him national recognition.

Chairman of the APC Congress Committee from the party’s national secretariat, Modibbo Bello, also praised the governor’s collaborative approach, which he said helped reunite party structures across all levels.

Similarly, Kebbi Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Abubakar Dambo, who supervised the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congress, citing the absence of violence or security concerns.

Re-elected State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, who emerged alongside 29 other officials, pledged loyalty to the governor’s leadership and vowed to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Delegates arrived at the venue as early as 8 a.m., chanting slogans in support of Governor Idris and President Bola Tinubu, signalling early mobilisation efforts as the next electoral cycle approaches.
