The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has declared that he would rather forfeit his life than betray his political benefactor and predecessor, Ibrahim Gaidam.

‎Buni made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress congress held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

‎“I would rather die than betray him. I remain deeply grateful to him for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” the governor said.

‎He noted that his political career was built on trust and insisted that betrayal had never been part of his record.

‎“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody; it is not in my record. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody,” he added.

‎The governor charged newly elected party officials to remain steadfast, urging them to uphold trust and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.

‎He also outlined achievements recorded in the past seven years of his administration, particularly in education, primary healthcare, empowerment, and commerce, assuring residents that these sectors would continue to receive priority attention.

‎On the issue of succession, Buni called on members of the APC in the state to pray for divine guidance in the emergence of the party’s next governorship candidate.

‎He urged party faithful to support a candidate with the capacity to unite members and sustain the “good works” of his administration.
