Political tension within the opposition camp eased slightly after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reassured leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the party will fully participate in the 2027 general elections. His comments came during coverage of the party’s national convention, where concerns had been raised about internal divisions threatening the party’s future.
Wike revealed that he personally assured former Senate President Bukola Saraki that the PDP remains stable and will not miss the ballot in 2027. According to him, the convention was a clear sign that the party is still organised, functional, and capable of contesting at the national level.
Wike emphasized that the successful conduct of the convention, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demonstrated credibility and internal order. He also praised the professionalism of the electoral body’s monitoring team, noting their early arrival and structured oversight.
According to him, the presence of senior legal figures during the process added further weight to the legitimacy of the exercise, showing that the PDP is still operating within proper democratic procedures despite internal disagreements.
The FCT Minister insisted that unity remains the only path forward for the opposition party if it hopes to challenge effectively in the next election cycle.
What do you think about this reassurance from Wike? Can PDP truly overcome its internal struggles before 2027? Drop your opinion in the comment section. Share this with someone following Nigerian politics.
