The Ghana Football Association has dismissed head coach Otto Addo with just over 70 days until the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision was confirmed on Tuesday with the federation announcing the immediate termination of his contract.
This followed a string of poor results in international friendlies.
The association said: “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo effective immediately.”
The move followed back-to-back defeats, including a 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart and a heavy 5-1 defeat in Austria, results that effectively ended his tenure.
Addo, 50, had returned for a second spell in March 2024 but struggled to stabilise the team’s performance.
Under his leadership, Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite having top talents such as Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus.
Across both stints, the former Borussia Dortmund player recorded eight wins and nine defeats in 22 matches, a return considered below expectations for the national team.
His exit comes at a critical time, with Ghana set to compete at the World Cup in North America this summer.
The Black Stars have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia and Panama, leaving the federation with limited time to appoint a replacement and prepare the team for the tournament.
