The Honourable Minister of Power, Adelabu A. Adebayo, has officially resigned from his position, signaling his intention to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State.
The resignation letter was addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In the letter, Minister Adebayo expressed profound gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him and for the opportunity to serve in the administration.
He highlighted his contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s power sector, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
“My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavour,” the minister wrote.
Adebayo, who holds the professional designations OFR, FCA, and FCIB, noted that it had been a privilege to serve the nation in a sector critical to economic growth and national development.
Political analysts suggest that his resignation marks the start of a high-stakes governorship contest in Oyo State, as Adebayo is expected to leverage his experience in federal administration and his visibility in the power sector to strengthen his campaign appeal.
This development adds to a growing list of political movements ahead of the 2026 state elections, signaling an increasingly competitive landscape in Oyo State.
