Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes will miss the rest of the domestic season and the upcoming World Cup after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The Brazilian sustained the knee injury during Real Madrid’s La Liga defeat to Getafe and underwent medical examinations on Tuesday morning.
In a statement, the club said: “After the tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the external meniscus of the right leg.”
The injury occurred 11 minutes after Rodrygo entered the pitch against Getafe. His knee buckled following a feint on the wing.
Although he completed the match despite visible discomfort, subsequent assessments confirmed the severity of the damage.
The 25-year-old had only recently returned from nearly a month out with tendonitis and was introduced in the 54th minute to reinforce Madrid’s attack.
The setback leaves coach Alvaro Arbeloa short of options in the final third ahead of the upcoming fixture against Celta Vigo.
With Rodrygo ruled out, Vinicius Junior and young Gonzalo are the only recognised attackers currently available
Kylian Mbappe remains sidelined through injury, while Mastantuono is suspended following a red card.
Rodrygo’s injury also rules him out of international duty, dealing a blow to Brazil ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
