According to a report by The Times Of Israel on February 13, 2026, violations carried out by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces during their takeover of El Fasher constitute war crimes and may also amount to crimes against humanity, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The UN human rights office detailed what it described as grave abuses committed as the RSF advanced on and captured the North Darfur city. Its findings point to systematic violence targeting civilians, along with other serious breaches of international humanitarian law.
RSF committed “widespread atrocities that amount to war crimes and possible crimes against humanity,” says a report published by the OHCHR. The document outlines incidents of killings, forced displacement, and attacks on civilian neighborhoods, raising alarm over the scale and pattern of the alleged violations.
The assessment is based on collected testimonies, verified evidence, and information gathered from multiple sources during and after the fighting in El Fasher. Investigators cited accounts of deliberate assaults on residential areas and reports of abuses against vulnerable populations.
The OHCHR emphasized that those responsible must be held accountable under international law. It also called for immediate steps to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian access to affected communities.
The situation in El Fasher has intensified concerns about the broader conflict in Sudan, where clashes between rival forces have led to significant civilian suffering. The UN rights office warned that continued impunity could fuel further violence and deepen the humanitarian crisis already unfolding across the region.
The report adds to mounting international pressure for accountability and renewed efforts to safeguard civilians caught in the conflict.
