President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with African countries, global partners, and the private sector to deliver secure, affordable, and cleaner energy, describing energy as central to peace, prosperity, and global stability.
The president stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of the 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit, which attracted heads of delegation, senior government officials, leaders of international energy organisations, executives of global and indigenous energy companies, development finance institutions, and representatives of host communities.
Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said energy remains a critical force that underpins modern economies and sustains societies, noting that Nigeria is prioritising the use of its vast gas reserves as a transition fuel while expanding renewable energy capacity.
He said Nigeria is positioning energy as a unifying tool that should stabilise economies, power industries, improve living standards, and strengthen trust among governments, investors, and citizens.

Reflecting on the state of the sector when his administration assumed office in 2023, the President said Nigeria inherited an energy industry rich in potential but constrained by inefficiencies, uncertainty, and years of underinvestment.
He stressed that energy must be treated beyond a mere economic commodity, describing it as a catalyst for national security, industrial growth, social inclusion, and regional cooperation.
Tinubu assured stakeholders of his administration’s commitment to building an energy system anchored on reliability, transparency, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
He highlighted the sustained implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act as a key reform, noting that regulatory institutions have been strengthened to improve clarity, transparency, and investor confidence.
