Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has spoken out against the armed attack he witnessed in Edo State during a meeting with party leaders.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Obi criticized those he believes are undermining Nigeria’s democratic institutions. “Those who claimed to be democratic yesterday are now destroying our democracy today. We cannot continue in this direction. They have killed governance, our democracy, our legislature and our judiciary,” he said, adding that leaders must unite to protect the country’s future.
Obi did not hold back in condemning both the violence from armed groups and what he described as intimidation by government officials. “We cannot have terrorists terrorizing the country and have government officials terrorizing citizens — it is unacceptable,” he said.
He pointed to the visible destruction left behind from the Edo State incident as evidence of the growing threat to public order, calling on all Nigerians to take a stand in defense of the country they share.
