Nollywood actor and producer Stanley Ontop has expressed serious concerns over the safety of actress Angela Okorie, following reports that authorities may attempt to re-arrest her immediately after her release from Suleja Prison.
Angela Okorie was taken into custody last week and detained at Suleja Prison over alleged defamation involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson. She was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.
Despite the bail approval, Angela remains in prison, leaving fans puzzled and worried about the delay.
In an update shared on Instagram on Monday, February 3, Stanley Ontop explained that the holdup was due to the verification process of her surety’s residential address. He confirmed that the court has now approved her release, removing the final barrier keeping her behind bars.
Stanley wrote:
“Angela Okorie will be out in a few minutes. There was a delay in the verification of her surety’s residential address yesterday, but the court has now signed for her release.”
He further claimed that new information indicated a fresh petition had been submitted against the actress. According to him, police officers were reportedly stationed outside Suleja Prison, ready to detain Angela again as soon as she left.
“We received info that there’s a fresh petition against Angela Okorie and that some policemen are stationed in front of Suleja Prison to apprehend her again immediately she’s released,” he stated.
Stanley also criticized the Nigerian Police for abandoning proper procedure and professionalism, asking:
“@nigeriapoliceforce is this how you operate? What happened to invitations? Why are citizens being arrested by those meant to protect them?”
He concluded with a heartfelt plea, urging authorities to ensure Angela’s safety upon her release:
“Make sure nothing happens to Angela Okorie on her release day. May Nigeria never happen to you,” he wrote.
