The Kano State Police Command has arrested a syndicate of six suspected car thieves and recovered three stolen vehicles in a major breakthrough against vehicle theft in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday.
Haruna stated that the operation was part of the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, emphasising sustained intelligence-led and technology-driven policing.
The Special Intervention Squad, under the leadership of CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, arrested 35-year-old Aliyu Mamman, a serial car thief, at the Hotoro Ring Road on February 13, 2026. Mamman, a resident of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, admitted to stealing multiple vehicles in Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states.
During interrogation, he implicated five accomplices — Abdulhamid Usman, Saliha Abdulhamid, Auwal Shuaibu, Sani Bala, and Ahmad Mannir — all of whom were subsequently arrested.
The suspects confessed to their crimes, leading to the recovery of three vehicles: a Golf Wagon, an Opel Golf, and a Hijet (Kurkura).
The Commissioner of Police commended the Special Intervention Squad for their dedication and professionalism in carrying out the arrests and recovering the vehicles.
