At least six passengers have been declared dead, while three others sustained injuries in a crash, following an accident that occurred along the Keffi–Akwanga Expressway in Nasarawa State, the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state confirmed on Thursday.
Our correspondent gathered that the accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Sienna bus attempted to evade an FRSC inspection on the highway. In his effort to escape the officers on duty, he lost control and collided with another vehicle.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Nasarawa State, Yahaya Sabo-Adiku, confirmed the incident during an interview with our correspondent in Keffi Local Government Area on Thursday.
“An accident occurred along the Keffi–Akwanga road around 10:20 a.m., in which six people lost their lives and three others were injured,” he said.
Sabo-Adiku explained that the crash was caused by the bus driver’s recklessness, who refused to stop for the patrol team. “In the process of trying to avoid arrest, he crashed into another vehicle,” he added.
The Sector Commander advised all drivers to view the FRSC officials as partners in road safety rather than adversaries, urging cooperation to reduce accidents and ensure safety on Nigerian roads.
