However, this was not the case for one family in Meru, whose approach during their relative’s burial sparked widespread online discussion.

The bereaved family openly “mourned” their loved one, whose untimely death reportedly resulted from his immoral actions.

Deric Mutua might have avoided his tragic fate had he not been involved in criminal activities that ultimately led to his death at the hands of an angry mob.

His eulogy was short and precise, with the family choosing brutal honesty about his life, prompting mixed reactions from social media users.

“Truth to the grave: Deric Mutua’s eulogy. Bad deeds are the food of the grave. The authors were not only serious but honest,” the caption read.

Deric Mutua’s birth, education journey

The eulogy began with his birth, stating that he was born in 1990 in Kithiru village, Anuki sub-location, Mikinduri West, Tigania East sub-county, Meru County.

He was the sixth-born child of Francis Michubu Anampiu and Mary Amatu Anampiu and had several siblings.

His siblings included John Kobia, Patrick Kirimi, David Mwiti, Martin Gichungu, Filomena Kanario, Damaris Kaburo, Clivetia Kathuuri, and Josphat Mutwiri.

His educational journey was brief, as he did not complete primary school, dropping out in Class Five in 1996 at Muchuune Primary School.

He worked there for three years, from 2007 to 2010, before changing career paths and joining a barber shop in 2011.

According to the eulogy, life did not go well for Mutua, as he eventually became a “criminal and evildoer until the day he met his death.”

He died on November 11, 2016, in Kiamweri village, Murungurene, Imenti South, after being killed by a mob.

Kenyans react to Mutua’s eulogy

The short, honest eulogy, which fit on a single page and featured no photos of the deceased, went viral and attracted widespread attention.

Elizabeth Okama:

“I saw a similar case in my village. They even wrote about how he impregnated different girls. He had many children and died without a wife.”

Evelyne M. Japhlet:

“Tell me why I went to see someone who had been burned, from Murungurene to Kiamweri.”

Kairetu Karathime Kamum:

“These are truthful parents. It seems they were tired of him.”

Nicc Junior:

“Exactly. This is what we should embrace. If you were a thief, let it be written that way.”

Man’s eulogy with 45 children stuns Kenyans

In a similar story, the eulogy of a man who had 45 children and 185 grandchildren surprised many Kenyans, who dubbed him a legend.

Netizens nicknamed the 82-year-old “Father Abraham,” astonished by the large number of children he had during his lifetime.

Some of his relatives took to social media to mourn him, noting that despite having many children, he was a loving and caring father to each one.

They dismissed claims and rumours that he had been reckless, instead praising his fatherly qualities and compassionate nature.
