President Bola Tinubu has congratulated renowned scholar Professor Jacob Kehinde Olupona on his 75th birthday, while also celebrating the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services, Engr. Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi, on his birthday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the President described Professor Olupona as a distinguished academic whose career reflects Nigeria’s resilience, intellectual brilliance, and global relevance.
Olupona, a Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) awardee, is a Professor of African Religious Traditions and Chair of the Department of African and African American Studies at Harvard University, United States. President Tinubu noted that the scholar’s academic journey—from institutions such as Boston University and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to Harvard University—underscores Nigeria’s contribution to global scholarship.
The president commended Olupona’s contributions to the study of African traditional religions, culture, and sociology, saying his research and teaching have deepened global understanding of Africa’s spiritual and social traditions while challenging long-held stereotypes.
Tinubu described the professor as a source of pride for Nigeria and a symbol of excellence for the African continent, wishing him good health, wisdom, and continued scholarly impact.
In a separate message, the President congratulated Engr. Kestin Pondi, the Ibe Benimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, describing him as a prominent figure whose life exemplifies service, enterprise, and commitment to community development.
President Tinubu praised Pondi’s contributions to economic growth, youth empowerment, and peace-building efforts in the Niger Delta, noting that his leadership and engagement with stakeholders have earned him respect across the region.
He also acknowledged Pondi’s support for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of his people and strengthening national cohesion, adding that his efforts continue to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta and the country.
