The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Nentawe G. Yilwatda, on Wednesday inaugurated the party’s National Convention Committee at the National Secretariat in Abuja, describing the occasion as a defining moment in the party’s progressive journey.
In a post on his X handle, Yilwatda said the inauguration underscores the APC’s enduring commitment to democratic values, internal democracy, and organisational excellence.
According to him, a national convention is not merely a gathering but a critical affirmation of the party’s democratic ethos and a clear demonstration of its strength as Nigeria’s ruling political platform.
The committee is chaired by a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Governor of Katsina State Aminu Masari.
Yilwatda expressed profound confidence in Masari’s leadership, describing him as a statesman of exceptional pedigree whose decades of experience and integrity make him eminently qualified for the responsibility.
“I have no doubt that under his leadership, this Committee will deliver a convention that is transparent, inclusive, and credible, one that reflects the stature and values of our great party,” he said.
Yilwatda noted that members of the Committee were carefully selected based on their proven integrity, wealth of experience, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the APC.
He charged them to justify the trust reposed in them by ensuring a seamless and successful convention.
Reflecting on recent developments, the APC National Chairman also highlighted the party’s electoral successes in by-elections across the country, with particularly strong performances in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State, and Rivers State.
He said the victories further affirm the confidence Nigerians continue to place in the APC and decisively put to rest claims by opposition elements about the party’s strength.
Yilwatda assured the Committee of the full support of the National Working Committee and the entire party structure, stressing that the APC remains united, focused, and committed to deepening democracy within its ranks and across the nation.
