President Bola Tinubu on Monday hosted state governors to a Ramadan Iftar dinner at the State House, Abuja, continuing his annual tradition of breaking fast with political leaders during the holy month.
The event, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Villa, marks the third consecutive year the President has organised the gathering.
Governors, deputy governors and senior government officials were in attendance to observe the evening fast-breaking. Those who arrived at the Villa before 7:00 p.m. included Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Mohammed Bago (Niger), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano) and Agbu Kefas (Taraba). The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State was also present.
Also in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members.
The Iftar forms part of the President’s Ramadan engagements with political and government leaders. In previous editions, Tinubu has used the occasion to call for unity and selfless service among public office holders.
At the 2025 Iftar, the President urged governors and ministers to prioritise citizens’ welfare, telling them to “do more for your people.” He also described Nigeria as “one big family living under the same roof,” regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
In 2024, he similarly appealed to governors to set aside political differences and focus on governance, stating that “the time for politics is over. It is now time for governance.”
