Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted his side’s strong recent record against Chelsea will count for nothing when the two London rivals meet on Sunday.
The Premier League leaders have not lost to Chelsea since 2021 and recently beat them in both legs of the League Cup semi-finals.
Arsenal have won 10 of the last 16 meetings between the clubs. However, Arteta said previous results are irrelevant.
He said: “We know the importance of the game and the team we are going to have in front of us.
We just have to prepare in the best way to earn the right to win it, as I always said.“What you have done two weeks or two years ago is irrelevant because every game and every context is different, the players might change, the mood of the team might be different.
We are prepared.”Chelsea, under Liam Rosenior, are unbeaten in six league matches and held Arsenal to a draw earlier this season despite playing with 10 men.
Arteta acknowledged Chelsea’s tactical flexibility.
He said: “They can change throughout the game, and they have a manager very comfortable doing that, so we are prepared for the possible scenarios we can face, and then we will try to be better than them.”When asked about the possibility of Arsenal winning a quadruple this season, Arteta dismissed the suggestion.
He said: “Has it been done? That is how difficult it is.“So let’s go game by game and try to earn the right to be there in the last stage of every competition, and then we will see what happens.”
