Man who had boarded ill-fated chopper narrates MP Ng'eno's last moments, says pilot was in hurry

• A young man who spent the better part of Saturday with MP Johanna Ng’eno has emotionally narrated the lawmaker’s final moments before the tragic helicopter crash that claimed six lives
• The ill-fated chopper crashed on Saturday, February 28, in a forested area in Mosop, Nandi County, killing all six people on board, including the MP
• Engineer Kipchirchir Mosonik, a close friend of the late MP, revealed in a Facebook video that he had actually boarded the same helicopter earlier that day
• According to him, the day had started on a high note, with the MP in a jovial and cheerful mood as they travelled together

A young man who spent the day with MP Johanna Ng’eno and even rode with him in the ill-fated chopper has now opened up about the lawmaker’s last moments alive before the tragic accident.

MP Johanna Ng’eno is among the six people who perished on Saturday, February 28, after the helicopter he was in crashed in a forested area in Mosop, Nandi County.

Speaking in a video shared on Facebook, a young man identified as Engineer Kipchirchir Mosonik, who was a close friend of the late lawmaker, narrated that he was one of those who accompanied Ng’eno on Saturday, and had even boarded the ill-fated chopper.

Mosonik narrated that the chopper picked him up in Eldoret on Saturday morning as he accompanied the MP to Endebess.

“We were heading to Endebess in Mt Elgon to attend a musician’s event. The MP asked me to accompany him, and I was picked up at an airstrip in Eldoret,” he said.

After their visit to Endebess, Mosonik said the pilot appeared to be in a hurry, and so he picked up the MP and a few others, including his photographer, Nick.

However, he did not board it again, as he was returning to Eldoret.

“Together with his PA, we took a vehicle to Kitale, so that we could get a vehicle to Eldoret. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived in Kitale, we got information about the chopper accident,” he recounted.

Mosonik said during his time in the chopper, he did not notice any technicalities or challenges.

“But I would not know since I do not know much about helicopters. All I remember was that the captain was in a hurry; I think he wanted to go back to Nairobi,” he revealed.

He also painfully remembered his last moments with the MP after bidding him farewell in Endebess. Mosonik narrated that the lawmaker was happy and in good spirits.

“I bid him the last goodbye as he boarded the chopper. He was at his happiest. He was so happy to see me in the morning when I joined him. My heart is so heavy. I say rest in peace,” he said.

Eyewitnesses narrate how crash happened

In other news, a Nandi man revealed what he saw when the MP’s helicopter came down on Saturday evening.

According to the eyewitness, the weather was foggy, and the helicopter had made an emergency landing.

However, minutes later, it took off again, leading to the fatal crash.
