Etolu made the extraordinary decision to sell his luxurious Mercedes-Benz to build an electric car in his backyard.
He built the car from the ground up, marking the beginning of what could potentially become a major car manufacturing venture in the future.

“Working from his backyard in Uganda, Jerry engineered a fully functional EV that he named ‘Lasuban Built.’ In his mother tongue, Lasuban means ‘creator,’ a fitting title for a machine born entirely from determination, resourcefulness, and skill,” part of the caption read.
Where did Etolu get his inspiration?
Etolu humorously noted that the only similarity between his new ride and his previous pricey Mercedes-Benz was the car key he held in his hand.
He said he had always dreamed of building cars since he was a little boy.
“That determination, willpower, drive, and passion pushed me to achieve my goals. Of course, because I did not have the financial resources, the dream was pushed aside for some time. One of my favourite shows was Pimp My Ride by Xzibit. I watched many episodes and never missed one once I started following the show.
When I told people I was going to build a car from scratch, it sounded like a joke to them. Even when I bought the materials and began construction, they still did not take it seriously. It remained a dream in their minds; they never believed it. I told them I had a project in my backyard, but they dismissed it,” he narrated.

How much is Etolu’s electric car?
Etolu said some assumed he would simply buy a car body and install windows, but those who visited him witnessed the work firsthand.
He said they were shocked as they watched him make progress step by step until he completed the project and even took it for a test drive on the road.
“Someone approached me and offered to buy the car, but I turned him down. If I were to price this car, it would be KSh 716,000,” he added.
