For nearly two decades, Austria had been his world. He built a life there from 2016, navigating a different culture, work system and rhythm of living.

But after a divorce, everything unravelled. By the time he boarded a flight back to Kenya, the stability he had known abroad had slipped through his fingers.

In a YouTube interview with Wuon Odidi, he disclosed that no sooner had he settled back home than reality struck hard.

“The system abroad is different from back home,” he said. “It was difficult to look for white-collar jobs. I had experience, but it did not seem to fit here.”

Shattered, broke and unsure of what lay ahead, George found himself grappling with a question many returnees silently face: where do you begin again when everything feels lost?

Where did George get inspiration?

It was during a visit to a friend in Gem that his life took an unexpected turn. In the stillness of the village, away from the noise of disappointment and pressure, he had a dream, vivid and clear.

In it, he saw crops dropping from the sky, neat pathways and a thriving farm. When he woke up, he did not dismiss it.

“I started sketching how I wanted my farm to look, and this is the result,” he said, holding up pages that would later become the blueprint of his new life.

With little capital but renewed determination, George ventured into horticulture. He registered his venture as Prior Trends, turning what began as sketches on paper into a structured, two-year-old agribusiness.

A new beginning in horticulture

The early days were not easy. Farming demanded patience, physical labour and resilience, qualities he had to rediscover within himself.

There were moments of doubt, especially when crops failed or markets fluctuated. Yet each setback reminded him that rebuilding, like farming, takes time.

Today, his farm is proof that loss can sometimes redirect a life rather than end it. Through Prior Trends, George grows horticultural produce for local markets, gradually expanding his reach and learning the rhythms of the soil.

The white-collar career he once envisioned has been replaced by muddy boots and sunlit mornings, a shift he once feared but now embraces.

He does not regret the past two years, buoyed by the fact that his farm is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, which offers him easy access to water all year round.

“I lost everything,” he reflected. “But maybe I needed to lose it to find this.”

For many Kenyans returning from abroad with shattered expectations, George’s journey is a reminder that starting over is not a sign of failure. Sometimes, it is the beginning of something far more grounded and deeply fulfilling.
