Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has disclosed that her involvement in the 2020 #EndSARS protests exposed her family to serious threats, including messages targeting her children, an experience she says permanently altered how she approaches activism.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the award-winning actress recounted the intense backlash she faced at the height of the nationwide demonstrations against police brutality.
According to her, while public figures often encounter online abuse, the events of #EndSARS marked an unprecedented turning point.
Omotola explained that she had previously received threats because of her outspoken views, but the situation escalated when her children began receiving similar messages.
She described this development as disturbing and unlike anything she had experienced in decades of advocacy work.
At the time, she said, she was deeply involved in the movement, participating in street protests, engaging with international media, and liaising with foreign missions and global non-governmental organisations.
The actress noted that the pressure intensified further when individuals began showing up at her home and workplace in search of her. That moment, she said, forced her to reassess her priorities and consider the safety of those around her, not just her own wellbeing.
“I am used to death threats; I have received them many times. But I have never seen anything like what happened during #EndSARS. It was intense. My kids started getting death threats. That was when it became weird,” she said, adding that she was actively involved in the movement at multiple levels.”Please Share 🙏…
