According to report by Tribune News on Monday, February 16, 2026, the National President of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, Ibrahim Abdullahi, has rejected moves by the United States Congress to classify some Fulani organisations as terrorist groups, describing the proposal as unfair and based on one-sided narratives.
Reacting to reports that groups such as Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Kautal Hore could face such designation, Abdullahi argued that the associations are legitimate cultural bodies duly registered by Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission.
He maintained that branding them as terrorist organisations without concrete evidence undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty and ignores the legal recognition granted to them by the Federal Government.
He further stated that the Fulani population in Nigeria is estimated at about 40 million, insisting that criminal elements among them represent only a tiny fraction.
According to him, individuals involved in banditry or violent crimes should be treated strictly as criminals rather than being used as a basis to stigmatise an entire ethnic group.
Abdullahi called on the Nigerian government to defend its citizens and institutions against what he described as external attempts to malign individuals and organisations without due investigation or fair hearing.
He also expressed concern over allegations linking prominent political figures to insecurity, stressing that such claims must be supported by verifiable proof.
On insecurity in northern Nigeria, he said the association has been working with security agencies by providing intelligence and sensitising Fulani communities against criminal behaviour.
He added that educational initiatives, including scholarships for Fulani youths, are part of efforts to discourage involvement in crime and promote social stability.
Abdullahi recommended increased funding and recruitment for federal security agencies as a strategy to combat banditry nationwide.
However, he warned that establishing state police could worsen insecurity, arguing that such structures might be misused for political purposes, particularly during elections. Please Share 🙏…
