Omodara Oluremi, mother of the late Olabisi Ogunfuye who was reportedly killed by a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle in Lagos, has recounted the painful moment she learnt about her daughter’s tragic death.
Speaking during an interview with Punch Newspapers, Oluremi narrated how the shocking news was broken to her by her son-in-law, Bolanle Ogunfuye. She said she was at home, unaware of the unfolding tragedy, when the call came through informing her that her daughter had been killed.
Recounting the heartbreaking moment, she said, “I was in my house when I just had a call by the husband that Olabisi has been killed that we should start coming to Shiloh bus stop.”
According to Oluremi, the call left her confused and devastated, as she struggled to comprehend how her daughter, who had left home earlier, could suddenly be declared dead. She explained that there had been no prior warning or indication of danger before the shocking announcement.
The grieving mother said rushing to the location mentioned in the call was one of the most difficult experiences of her life. She described the scene at Shiloh bus stop as chaotic and emotionally overwhelming, with sympathisers and onlookers gathered around.
Olabisi Ogunfuye was reportedly killed in an accident involving a BRT vehicle, an incident that has since sparked renewed public concern over road safety and the conduct of commercial drivers in Lagos. Family members have continued to demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
