Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has congratulated candidates of the All Progressives Congress who won last Saturday’s bye-elections to fill two vacant seats in the state House of Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Napoleon Ukalikpe and Bulabari Loolo winners of the Ahoada East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2 bye-elections, respectively.
Reacting to the outcome, Fubara described the victory of the two APC candidates as well deserved, given their popularity in their respective constituencies.
The governor’s reaction was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.
Fubara stated, “It is the beauty of democracy. When the people believe in your capacity, they will give you their votes. I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the State House of Assembly.”
He also applauded the people of the two constituencies for the peaceful conduct recorded before, during and after the elections.
The bye-elections were conducted to fill vacancies created following the resignation of the former representative of Ahoada East Constituency 2 and the death of the former lawmaker representing Khana Constituency 2, Dinebari Loolo, who passed away after an illness in September 2023.
Late Loolo’s widow, Bulabari Loolo, later emerged as the APC candidate and won the February 21 bye-election.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, is expected to inaugurate the two members-elect soon.
