Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to preventing recurring fire outbreaks in markets across Kano, following the recent inferno that devastated parts of the Singer Market.
Shettima made this known on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Association of Kano Business Community led by its President, Alhaji Sabiu Bako.

The Vice President disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has completed the necessary documentation to release the N5 billion approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as immediate relief for traders affected by the fire incident.
The inferno, which razed several sections of the popular Singer Market, destroyed goods and business capital estimated to be worth billions of naira.

Shettima explained that the N5 billion intervention was based on preliminary damage assessments, noting that the President had directed him to visit Kano immediately after the incident to sympathise with victims and recommend appropriate federal support.
According to him, the President had given full backing for any necessary recommendation, adding that the approved amount reflected the initial evaluation of losses.

The Vice President, however, stressed that the disbursement and utilisation of the funds must be handled transparently to ensure accountability.
He further revealed that the President has directed relevant federal agencies to collaborate with the Kano State Government and market stakeholders to introduce proactive fire safety measures aimed at preventing a recurrence of such incidents.
