The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Katung, has disclosed that the Federal Government, in partnership with the Kaduna State Government, has concluded arrangements to establish a ₦40 billion ginger production and processing hub in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Katung disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, describing the initiative as a major agricultural breakthrough for the district.

According to him, the facility is projected to become the largest ginger processing hub in Africa upon completion.

He explained that the Kaduna State Government has already committed ₦20 billion to the project, while the Federal Government will provide the balance as part of broader efforts to promote agro-industrialisation and stimulate economic growth in Southern Kaduna.

“The establishment of this ₦40 billion ginger production and processing hub in Kachia is a historic milestone for the Kaduna South Senatorial District. When completed, it will position our district as a global player in the ginger value chain,” the senator said.

Katung noted that the project would significantly enhance ginger production, reduce post-harvest losses, create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activities across rural communities.

“This project is not just about ginger; it is about jobs, rural industrialisation, wealth creation and restoring hope to our farming communities. Our farmers will move beyond selling raw produce to value addition, processing and export,” he added.

The lawmaker said the investment aligns with the economic diversification drive of President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda and complements the development blueprint of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

“This initiative reflects the strong collaboration between the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government. Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive leadership has continued to attract transformative federal projects to Southern Kaduna,” he said.

Beyond agriculture, Katung listed other milestones recorded in the district, including the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, with plans for a College of Medicine in Manchok, as well as the upgrading of the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan.

He further revealed that he had secured a five-year partnership with a United States-based humanitarian organisation, Project C.U.R.E., to facilitate the supply of medical equipment valued at about ₦8 billion to general hospitals across the senatorial district.

“Through this partnership, we are bringing in modern medical equipment and supplies that will strengthen healthcare delivery and improve outcomes for our people,” he said.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, the senator maintained that the district was making steady progress through collaborative governance and strategic federal engagement.

He also called on residents of Kaduna South to use the concurrent Lenten and Ramadan seasons to promote unity, interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.

“The convergence of both religious observances presents an opportunity to reinforce our shared values of faith, discipline and charity as we collectively pursue development,” he stated.

Katung expressed appreciation to his constituents for their continued support, prayers and constructive feedback, pledging to sustain efforts aimed at advancing the socio-economic growth of Kaduna South Senatorial District.
