Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have arrested five suspected gunmen shortly after their arrival in the state.
The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday in Ekiti West Local Government Area, with arms and other items recovered from them, the Amotekun State Communications Officer, Adeleye Adewale, confirmed in a statement on Thursday in Ado Ekiti.
The suspects were identified as Abdulahi Makana (28), Shuaba Ibrahim (25), Adamu Muhammed (25), Shlibu Umar (31), and Aruna Yahaya (28).
Adewale stated that the suspects, who reportedly hail from the northern region of the country, were arrested at Itawure upon alighting from a vehicle.
“The five suspects were seen alighting from a vehicle at a motor park in front of a church along Itawure Road. Following reports from indigenes, the Amotekun Command swiftly moved to the scene. Fortunately, all suspects were arrested and dangerous weapons were recovered from them,” he said.
The recovered items included two locally-made guns, one axe, a daga (local sword), two dogs, five cell phones, and assorted charms.
Adewale added that upon interrogation, the suspects claimed to be farmers but failed to provide any evidence to substantiate their claims.
“The suspects and the exhibits recovered have since been handed over to the Ekiti West Police Command for further investigation and necessary action,” the Amotekun spokesperson said.
