The Ebonyi State Government has sponsored 92 more students to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom under its scholarship scheme.
The beneficiaries departed Nigeria on Monday from the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Ezza, marking another milestone in the implementation of the human capital development component of the state’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
Speaking at the departure ceremony, Governor Francis Nwifuru said the programme highlighted his administration’s commitment to blending human capital development with infrastructure-driven governance.
He recalled that 285 Ebonyi indigenes were sponsored for postgraduate studies abroad last year, noting that many of them had already completed their Master’s degrees.
The governor charged the beneficiaries to uphold discipline, diligence and good conduct, reminding them that many others had aspired to the opportunity but could not secure it.
Nwifuru urged the scholars to remain mindful that the funds expended on the programme represented the collective sacrifice of the people of the state, including farmers, traders, civil servants and artisans.
He expressed optimism that the beneficiaries would return with the skills and global exposure needed to strengthen institutions, boost the state’s economy and enhance its competitiveness. “When you return home equipped with knowledge, skills, and global exposure, you will become pillars upon which the future of Ebonyi State will stand.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Scholarship Board, Chief Chaka Nweze, commended the governor for prioritising human capital development and urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity and return as better citizens committed to the state’s progress.
