Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State on Friday said his alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress would enable the state to effectively support and leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Fintiri, who formally announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said the decision followed wide consultations and was driven by the long-term stability, development and prosperity of the state rather than personal ambition.
He described the move as a strategic step to reposition Adamawa for greater national relevance and developmental opportunities.
“My alignment with the APC would enable Adamawa State to effectively support and leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, which aims to transform the nation in critical sectors including social welfare, infrastructure, housing and inclusive economic development,” he stated.
He added that recent political developments necessitated decisive action to align the state with mainstream national politics, noting that the move would open up more opportunities and secure greater stakes for the people of Adamawa.
The governor emphasised that the defection was a collective decision backed by strong grassroots structures across the state.
“We have structures everywhere. We are moving into the APC with all the 226 wards, 21 Local Government Areas, all elected and appointed members and indeed our energy and our political machinery to confer benefit to our state, the nation and our people,” he said.
Fintiri assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritize infrastructure, security and social welfare, stressing that the ultimate goal remains the prosperity of Adamawa State and its people.
