The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a Cameroonian national and his Nigerian accomplice for allegedly trafficking 197 sachets of tramadol across the Nigeria–Cameroon border.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Nguroje, the suspects were intercepted while allegedly transporting the illicit substances through Adamawa State en route to the Republic of Cameroon.

He said the arrest was made by operatives of the Border Patrol Unit, Fufore, during a routine operation.

The suspects were identified as Muhammad Mustapha, 32, of Dorayi in Kano State, and Muhammad Sanusi, 48, of Garoua, Cameroon.

“In its ongoing fight against drug trafficking and trans-border crimes, the Adamawa State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects found in possession of 197 sachets of tramadol,” Nguroje stated.

“They were intercepted by operatives of the Border Patrol Fufore Unit during an operation.”

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the drugs were transported from a South-Eastern state and were being conveyed through Adamawa with the intention of smuggling them into Cameroon before their interception.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Dankombo Morris, commended the Border Patrol Unit for its vigilance and professionalism.

He has directed the command’s Monitoring Unit to take over the case for thorough investigation and further necessary action.

The command reiterated its commitment to combating drug-related and other illicit crimes in the state.

“The command remains resolute in its commitment to ridding the state of drug-related and illicit crimes,” the statement added.
