The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the deployment of massive security personnel and enhanced weaponry to troubled communities in a renewed effort to curb banditry and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, Nafiu Habib, said the move followed a recent resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri, all located in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

Habib explained that the deployment was carried out through joint operations involving the police, the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies.

According to him, the collaborative efforts of security agencies, supported by the Bauchi State Government, are already yielding positive results.

“In recent days, there has been a resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri. Following a thorough security assessment, the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has initiated a massive deployment of joint security personnel to the affected communities with a view to suppressing the activities of these criminal elements,” he said.

The police spokesman noted that the affected border communities had long faced security challenges due to the infiltration of criminal elements from neighbouring states.

He, however, reassured residents of Mansur town, who reportedly fled their homes over fears of attacks, that the security situation remained under control.

“Despite recent incidents in neighbouring Gwana District, Mansur town remains unaffected, and there is no cause for alarm,” Habib stated.

“I confirm to you that massive deployments of security personnel and enhanced weaponry have been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Operatives are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability in the affected areas,” he added.

The Command further assured residents of Alkaleri LGA that there would be no safe haven for bandits in the area, stressing that security operations would be sustained.

Habib said the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, emphasised the importance of community cooperation in tackling insecurity.

He urged residents to promptly provide intelligence to security agencies and report suspicious movements, strange faces or objects within their communities.

Habib added that the CP assured residents that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.

He also encouraged citizens to take advantage of the improved security measures and go about their lawful activities without fear.
